米GoogleのCEOエリック・シュミット氏がApple社の取締役を辞任しました。

Dr. Eric Schmidt Resigns from Apple’s Board of Directors
CUPERTINO, California—August 3, 2009—Apple® today announced that Dr. Eric Schmidt, chief executive officer of Google, is resigning from Apple’s Board of Directors, a position he has held since August 2006.
“Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.”
本日、Applehaエリック・シュミット博士（Google最高経営責任者）が2006年8月より務めていたAppleの取締役を辞任したことを発表します。
Apple社CEOであるスティーブ・ジョブズは、次のように述べています。
「エリック氏は、Apple社の優れた取締役メンバーであり、Appleを成功に導くために彼の持つ時間や才能、そして情熱と知恵を注力してくれました。しかし残念ながら、Google社がAppleのコアビジネス分野へと参入してきたために潜在的な利害の競合を避ける意味から取締役における同氏の役割を縮小せざるを得なくなり、いまが同氏が取締役を辞任するのにもっとも適したタイミングであると判断した」。
以前から幾度も競合関係が指摘されてきたエリック氏の辞任がようやく決まったようです。
いままで、Apple社とGoogleは非常に友好的な立場を取ってきたわけですが、今回の辞任によりそれがどのような影響を与えるのか、注目する必要があります。
